Whale 9th & 9th Single Use Camera

ESSENTIAL 9TH & 9TH WHALE CAMERA

Made to celebrate the art and creative spirit of Salt Lake City’s 9th & 9th neighborhood, this special edition Essential single-use camera features artwork inspired by the iconic whale sculpture, Out of the Blue, and its newest painting, OPEN YOUR EYES.

Known for its independent shops, local artists, and community spirit, 9th & 9th is a neighborhood that celebrates creativity in all its forms. This camera is a little piece of that spirit to take with you.

Each camera comes loaded with 27 exposures of color Fujifilm 35mm film. Find one at Essential Photo Supply and select shops around 9th & 9th. When you finish the roll, bring it back to Essential for processing and scans.

The newest artwork, OPEN YOUR EYES, features gradients of pink and blue, flowing waves, and colorful dots and pearls inspired by Utah’s open sky, the Great Salt Lake, and the diverse people and neighborhoods that make up our city. One eye is open, symbolizing awareness and openness to others, while the other is closed, representing thoughtfulness and kindness. Together, the artwork celebrates community, connection, and the unexpected things that come to feel like home.

The camera carries this artwork forward with a graphic Whale Watcher illustration on the front, created by the artist. It’s a little piece of 9th & 9th to take with you.

Ask us to save your camera so you can begin a collection - grab one each year at the annual kickoff, WhaleFEST where the businesses in the 9th & 9th district throw a party including food trucks, whale costume contest, beer garden, artist pop ups, live local music, and even a whale call contest!
