A sharp, fast 24mm prime that handles everything from landscapes to street work. The f/1.4 aperture lets you shoot in dim light and gives you serious control over background blur—great for isolating subjects or creating that dreamy bokeh. The 84° field of view is wide enough to capture sweeping scenes without going ultra-wide, so it stays natural and usable for most situations.
The optical design keeps everything tack-sharp. Sony packed in extra-low dispersion glass to kill color fringing and extreme aspherical elements to stamp out distortion. The Nano AR coating cuts down on ghosting and flare when you're shooting into strong light, so you get clean contrast and true colors. It's a lens built to perform, not just look good on paper.
Focus is handled by a Direct Drive SSM motor—it's fast, nearly silent, and gives you smooth manual focus control when you need it. The 24cm minimum focus distance means you can get closer than you'd expect from a wide prime. The whole barrel is sealed against dust and moisture with a fluorine-coated front element, so it'll hold up to rough conditions. You also get a focus hold button, AF/MF switch, and manual aperture ring for the control you want in the field.
At 445g, it's compact and portable without feeling cheap. Sony's G Master line doesn't cut corners, and this lens proves it—it's the kind of glass that gets better the more you use it.
