The Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM Z is a professional telephoto zoom built for both photo and video work. Its internal zoom design, bright f/2.8 aperture, fast autofocus, and video-friendly controls make it a strong fit for sports, events, portraits, and production setups.
Internal Zoom and Video-Friendly Design
Unlike many 70-200mm lenses, this model uses an internal zoom and internal focus design, so the lens does not change length while zooming or focusing. That makes it easier to balance on a gimbal and more predictable for handheld video work.
The design also helps reduce focus breathing, while a lockable iris ring gives you direct control over aperture during recording.
Fast, Quiet Autofocus
Two Nano USM motors drive the focusing system for quick, smooth, and quiet autofocus. The motors can work independently, helping the lens respond quickly while keeping focus transitions controlled for video.
High-End Optical Performance
The lens uses 18 elements in 15 groups, including two Super UD elements, one UD element, and three aspherical elements to reduce color fringing and other optical issues across the frame.
Canon’s Air Sphere and Super Spectra coatings help control flare and ghosting, while a fluorine coating on the front element helps resist water, oil, and fingerprints.
Controls and Compatibility
The lens can focus as close as 1.6 feet and includes two programmable function buttons plus a customizable Control Ring. Its L-series construction is sealed against dust and moisture for use in changing conditions.
It is also compatible with Canon’s optional PZ-E2 and PZ-E2B power zoom adapters, as well as RF 1.4x and RF 2x extenders.
